Osaka Kansai International Airport (KIX)
Airport Information

(Osaka, Japan)

Osaka Airport (KIX) Information: Photo of the skylineLocated on a man-made, off-shore island, Kansai International Airport (KIX) is approximately 50 km / 31 miles from central Osaka and lies to the far south-west. This new airport is close to Kishiwada and Izumi Sano, and is the second busiest airport in Japan, with its single terminal being the largest terminal building in the world.

The Osaka Kansai Airport offers connections to 72 cities in 32 countries with over 50 airlines, and a throughput of around 14 million passengers per year, roughly a third of which were domestic. A newly opened runway has increased capacity further, with around 600 weekly flights in total to predominantly Asian cities.

Kansai International Airport is situated just off the Hanwa Expressway, giving immediate access to Japan's road system. There are good transfer connections to Osaka and beyond, with frequent bus and train services running to Osaka's districts of Doyama-ch, Kyobash, Midosuji, Nanko, Shinsaibashi, Tennoji and Umeda.

From Osaka it is possible to catch trains and buses to most other destinations in Japan. There are also taxis available at the airport, but fares to Osaka and other long-distance destinations are on the pricey side. Nearby and within reach of both Osaka and Kansai Airport, the city of Kobe lies to the west and is known for its busy seaport. Worth noting, Kansai ferry services actually link both Kobe Airport and Sumoto-ko, on the Japanese island of Awaji.

About Osaka Tourism

The city of Osaka lies within southern-central Honshu, in the Kansai region and alongside the scenic Osaka Bay. This enormous metropolis is very much a modern city with a strong Japanese identity and many gleaming skyscrapers, such as the World Trade Centre Cosmo Tower and the X-Tower. However, beneath the high-rise buildings and busy city life lie a number of historical sites and cultural attractions.

Serving the Osaka region, Kansai Airport (KIX) is also close to Kobe, the capital city of Hyogo Prefecture. Sightseers visiting Osaka should look out for the iconic Tsutenkaku Tower, the ancient Shitennoji Temple, and Tempozan Park (next to the harbour) and the Tennoji Park complex, home to the Municipal Museum of Fine Art and the city zoo, where you will find more than 1,000 exotic animals.
